Winston, MI (Thursday, April 22, 2021) - In an announcement made on the official Winston Speedway Facebook page Wednesday night, officials have made the decision to switch their Late Model rules to follow DIRTcar UMP rules starting April 30th. The decision ultimately relates to the struggles teams are having getting new tires from American Racer.
The statement from Winston Speedway reads in part, like this: “The American Racer MD56 with MARW stamp & American Racer 29-11-15G MD56 tire will be allowed a 4-week burn-off period. After that time, the only tire allowed in the Super Late Model division will be the Hoosier UMP M30S. Also effective April 30th Super Late Models will now be UMP DIRTcar sanctioned. This will allow you to compete for not only track points at Winston Speedway but also DIRTcar regional and national points.”
The decision has already received praise from some of the region’s most recognizable names in Late Model racing. Three-time DIRTcar UMP Late Model National Champion, Rusty Schlenk said, “Awesome! Can't wait to get back to Winston”. Other drivers didn’t shy away from supporting the decision as well. “Excellent news,” said Chad Finley.
In the post, Winston officials say they made the change due to a lack of availability of the American Racer. Officials also say they have no plans to revert the Super Late Models back to American Racers in the future. As for other divisions at Winston, they’re seeing some changes as well.
Officials say the Street Stocks will move to the Hoosier M30S & M60 UMP mod tire along with the American Racer SS tire, however, the M60 or American Racer will be the only tire allowed on the right rear. Regular Winston Speedway Street Stock drivers will have a chance to discuss the tire change and decide if they’ll move back to the American Racer.
The next event for Winston Speedway is scheduled for this Friday night with a regular Full Show featuring Super Late Models and IMCA Modifieds. For more information about Winston Speedway, log onto www.RaceWinstonSpeedway.com. Find Winston Speedway on Facebook for faster updates.
