Cadillac, MI (Wednesday, January 20, 2021) - Mike Blackmer had one goal in 2020, and that was to make sure both of his race tracks could make it through the season. It seems the goal has changed for 2021, as Merritt Speedway and Tri City Motor Speedway have released their schedules, and both facilities are loaded with 'can’t miss' events.
Tri City, entering a second season under Blackmer’s ownership, will kick things off with their Opening Night on Friday, April 23rd. UMP Late Models, IMCA Mods, Pro Stocks, Factory Stocks, 4-6 Cylinders, and Mini Wedges will once again return for 2021. It doesn’t take long to find the first premier event on the schedule. One week later on April 30th, the Allstar Performance Late Model Challenge Series invades Tri City for Race #1. In all, five Challenge Series events highlight the 2021 schedule, culminating with the Battle by the Bay weekend on September 17th and 18th. If that wasn’t enough, after the incredible racing witnessed at last season’s event, the Summer Nationals Hell Tour will once again return to Tri City on August 20th. Specials for all house divisions are also in the offering all summer long.
The Great Lakes Super Sprints will make three appearances at the Mid Michigan bullring, May 21st, August 6th, and September 10th. The Great Lakes Traditional Sprints and Lighting Sprints will also be part of the August and September events. The September event will also include a $5,000 to win feature for the UMP Modifieds, and $3,000 to win for the B-Modifieds.
As for Merritt Speedway, their 2021 campaign will kick off on Saturday, April 24th with a $1,500 B Modified special. On May 1st, Merritt will hold the first of their five Allstar Performance Late Model Challenge Series events. The Great Lakes Family of Sprint Cars will also have appearances on the 2021 slate, July 10th, and the triple-header season finale on September 11th.
If you want to make summer camping part of your event selection, traditional two-day events at Merritt include the Memorial Day Celebration weekend (May 29th & 30th), The Independence Day Celebration weekend (July 3rd & 4th), the 33rd Annual Wood Tic / Dan Salay Memorial ( August 6th & 7th), and the Gene Kregear Championships (September 4th & 5th). The Summer Nationals Hell Tour will also make an appearance at Merritt on August 21st.
In typical Mike Blackmer fashion, “Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track” has a schedule that is loaded with specials for the UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, B-Modifieds, Pro Stocks, Factory Stocks, 4-6 Cylinders, and Mini Wedges.
