Speedweeks Results: Moran Returns to Victory Lane in East Bay Finale

The Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series wrapped up their Florida Speedweeks action on Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park. 69 drivers took time on the final night of the 46th Annual Wrisco Winternationals, with Brandon Overton topping the charts. It’s been the Brandon Sheppard show at East Bay of late, finding victory lane three consecutive nights, heading into the 50 lap $15,000 to win finale.

Overton and Colton Burdette would lead the field to green, with “Big Sexy” grabbing the early lead. But Sheppard would roar to the front on lap 2. A long green flag run would ensue, with Sheppard opening up a 5 second lead, before the first caution of the event for a rain shower. Following the restart, it would seem the moisture would hurt Sheppard, and help Devin Moran.

On lap 34 Sheppard would have issues in turn 4, jumping the cushion and making contact with the wall. Moran on the other hand, made a huge move to the front to take over the race lead, with the rain helping him due to choosing a softer tire. “The Mailman” would look strong the rest of the way, holding off Tyler Erb and Mark Whitener for his 3rd win at Speedweeks. Whitener’s 3rd place finish would be his best of the young season. Tanner English and Overton would round out the top 5.
