Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series & Supers at Showtime Headline First Saturday
Quincy, MI (Saturday, January 23, 2021) - A new year and a new race season is now well underway, and it's the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series marking the start of Speedweeks 2021. Sadly, mother nature interfered with last night's season-opening event at All-Tech Raceway in Lake City, Florida.
The opening race was scheduled to be a 50-lap, $12,000 to win show. Now, tonight (Saturday) becomes the season starting point, another 50-lap race but this contest pays $15,000 to the winner.
An impressive 53 car entry list features some of Dirt Late Model's best, including defending Series Champion, Jimmy Owens, and this year's Wild West Shootout Champion, Johnathon Davenport. 2017 Lucas Champion, Josh Richards is entered along with the likes of Brandon Sheppard, Tyler Erb, Devin Moran, Billy Moyer Jr., and Tim McCreadie.
McCreadie was the winner of the season-opening event last year, held at Golden Isle Speedway in Brunswick, Georgia. Golden Isle had been the host of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series' Opening Night in recent years but the 2021 event was canceled as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Two dirt stars with NASCAR experience, Kyle Larson and Stewart Friesen are on the All-Tech entry list. Larson straps back into a late model for the first time since his Chili Bowl Nationals win earlier this month, while Friesen makes his Dirt Late Model debut. Brian Shirley, Doug Drown, Dennis Erb Sr., Hudson O'Neal, Frank Heckenast Jr., Devin Moran, and Todd Anderzack, are representing the Midwest.
The asphalt in Florida will also get some love this weekend. Tonight was originally scheduled to be Champion Racing Association's annual SpeedFest celebration at Crisp Motorsports Park, then moved to Showtime Speedway, before CRA untimely elected to pull their sanctioning of the event. However, Showtime is pushing forward with racing activities, hosting a $15,000 to win Super Late Model race, dubbed as Florida Fest.
