Sanctions Celebrate 100th Respective Events
Detroit, MI (Friday, January 29, 2021) - Thursday night in Florida means even more racing during the 2021 Florida Speedweeks. A total of three main events were held on two different dirt tracks, the Super DIRTcar Modifieds at Bubba Raceway Park and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series at East Bay Raceway Park. Due to weather, Modifieds were hosting their first event of the week, and Late Models were gearing up for a double feature event.
A slick and abused East Bay Raceway Park was the stage for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series' 100th race at East Bay, an event that saw a first-time winner go to victory lane. Stormy Scott, who started 9th rolled the bottom of the race track exhibiting extreme patience while holding off Kyle Bronson for his first career win with the Series. An unforgiving race track forced nearly every competitor on the track to use the inside line around the tractor tires, and Scott did it the best, navigating lapped traffic and not giving in to the pressure from the hometown driver, Bronson. The 40 lap race saw multiple pile-ups in which the track was completely blocked. Officials even threw the red for a turn one parking lot that included nearly the entire field. Scott collected $7,000 for his efforts Thursday.
The second part of the East Bay show was the conclusion of the Wednesday night program that was washed out due to rain. Despite some track changes, including moving the infield tires out into the surface, the track was still worn and slick, resulting in similar accidents for the second race of the night. Josh Richards took notes from Stormy Scott and drove to the bottom of the race track from his 9th starting spot and had the lead early. It was quickly apparent that drivers would need throttle control to survive the 40 lap event as tires were blistering and going flat throughout the race. Richards was able to manage his tires and drive to his first Lucas Oil Late Model Series win of 2021.
(From www.shorttracksuperseries.com) After a rainout on Wednesday night, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled by Sunoco made a phenomenal debut at Bubba Raceway Park Thursday. The first race of the ‘Sunshine Swing’ saw a back-and-forth, tooth-and-nail battle for the lead. When the checkered flag flew on the 35-lap main event, Ransomville, New York's, Erick Rudolph was the man in Victory Lane. The win was Rudolph’s third career STSS victory, and his first since the final night of the first edition of the Sunshine Swing at All-Tech Raceway. The win netted Rudolph a $5,000-plus payday to kick off the week in the Sunshine State. Thursday’s feature marked the 100th Modified event in Short Track Super Series history since the series’ inception on April 6, 2014.
