Ritter Resigns as Promoter at Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway

Springport, MI - In a Tuesday night post on the social media platform, Facebook, Battle Creek, MI native, Donnie Ritter announced he would not return as the Promoter of Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway in 2025. The former Promoter at Galesburg Speedway had spent the past eight seasons promoting the activities at Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway.

Ritter's post read as follows:

"I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to everyone who has supported me over the past 8 years while I served as a promoter of Springport Mid Michigan Speedway. Although this decision has been incredibly difficult and emotional for me, I have ultimately decided that it is time for me to step away from my position.

I wish all my drivers the best in whichever way they decide to proceed their racing careers.

To my mini wedge drivers… I’m so deeply sorry. I hope you all know how much I enjoyed working with you all. You all have grown into great drivers and kids throughout the years and I’m proud of each one of you.

Lastly, my family, I want to express my gratitude to each and every one of you for standing by me from the very beginning. I truly appreciate everything you've done for me these past years.

Thank you all,

Donnie"

The announcement was met with considerable understanding of Ritter's decision to step away. Many expressed thanks for his efforts in growing the number of racecars who raced at Springport on a regular basis. Others expressing the great pleasure they've had to race or work under Ritter's direction.

"Only thing I want to say is how much I appreciate everyone," Ritter said when asked if he'd like to make any additional comment on his announcement.

Curt Ainsworth alongside brother John took ownership of the Speedway in 2016 and brought Ritter on immediately. In 2022, Ritter and Curt Ainsworth were honored as the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club Promoter(s) of the Year. Ritter is also credited with establishing and building a Mini Wedge track and program that feeds the sport's growth through youth racers.

In addition to building the Mini Wedge track and program, Ritter is also credited with bringing one of the richest Modified shows in the country, the Hot Shoe 100, to Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway for two consecutive years. Ritter also helped facilitate staff and officials for major events like the annual Michigan Cup weekend.

Ritter’s son, Drew also posted on social media saying that there are things going on behind the scenes that many will never know about. Drew Ritter said his father has the heart and passion for the sport that is hard to find.

“It’s also very hard to keep a track going without the support and backing from the owner,” Drew Ritter said on Facebook.

Ainsworth could not be reached for comment at this time.
