Detroit, MI (Thursday, January 28, 2021) - Mother nature played her first major hand in the 2021 Florida Speedweeks, washing out two events within a few hours of each other. First, the DIRTcar Big Block Dirt Modifieds at Bubba Raceway Park fell to rain in the northern part of the state, before the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series had their program halted by a steady downpour at East Bay Raceway Park.
The Big Block Dirt Modifieds were set to officially open the Sunshine Swing on Wednesday night, however rain in the Ocala, Florida area washed the event out early in the day. Drivers now prepare for Thursday's 35 lap, $5,000 to win main event accompanied by the 604 Crate Sportsman. The Sunshine swing runs through Saturday night.
For the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, it took until the middle of the second B-Main for rain to reach the Raceway just outside of Tampa. Officials were setting a quick pace and had nearly finished the second B-Main before rain came just before 8:00 pm. Tonight, officials will run the entire scheduled program for Thursday night, before completing the Wednesday night program. The answer to mother nature now sets up a pair of 40-lap, $7,000 to win events on the same night at East Bay Raceway Park.
